Sandeep Unnikrishnan was an Indian Army officer who was martyred during the 2008 Mumbai attacks. He was born on March 15, 1977, in Kozhikode, Kerala, India. Sandeep Unnikrishnan was commissioned into the Indian Army in the 7th Battalion of the Bihar Regiment in June 1999.
During the 2008 Mumbai attacks, Sandeep Unnikrishnan displayed exceptional bravery and courage while leading his team in the rescue operations at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel. He was instrumental in saving the lives of many hostages and successfully neutralizing terrorists before being fatally wounded in the line of duty.
Sandeep Unnikrishnan was posthumously awarded the Ashoka Chakra, India's highest peacetime military decoration for valor, for his exemplary courage and sacrifice. His selfless actions and dedication to duty have made him a symbol of bravery and heroism in India.
